Dante residents created Dante Lives On, Inc. in October of 2003 to revitalize our community. Nestled in the mountains of southwest Virginia, Dante was once the headquarters of the Clinchfield Coal Corporation but has been in a long economic decline since the last coal mine shut down in 1959. Determined to see our community survive and move forward, our residents are preserving, restoring, and promoting their coal mining and railroading history. For more...

THE DANTE COMMUNITY CENTER

 

The Community Center is open and being put to good use. Besides being used for community meetings and gatherings, the building was used as a polling place for the elections held on November 8, 2011.

The new Dante Library is located inside the Community Center and is open for business. The Center hours are Wednesday 10 am - 4 pm. You can check out books, audio books, large print books, movies (VHS and CD), and music CD's. If you do not have a Russell County library card; you canapply for one at the time of visit. Bring your ID or piece of mail with your name and mailing address. Volunteers are needed to help keep the library opened more days. If you are interested, call 495-7832.

 

The Halloween Fall Festival at the center was a big success. Everyone had a good time with lots of things to do for adults and children. Thanks to the Dante Volunteer Rescue Squad, Dante Lives On, the Dante Volunteer Fire Department and the Dante Community Center. Everyone worked hard to make it a night of fun for the complete family. Thanks to all of those who helped.

 

If anyone wants to rent the center for private parties, meetings, etc., keep in mind that November and December are holiday months and our dates are taken quickly. If you want to use the center, call 495-7832 for information.
